Cassio Jose de Abreu Oliveira known as Cassio, started his football dreams playing on streets and beaches of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) as a kid. Played Futsal when he was 9/10 years old. Then moved to the football pitch with 11 years old.
Started playing for Barra da Tijuca F.C.in Rio until 15 years old. Cassio moved to Brazilian powerhouse C.R.Flamengo starting his youth career. Becoming a professional footballer in 1999 and played his first game in 2000 against Botafogo at Maracana Stadium in front of 35.000 people.
Cassio played his brilliant career for Flamengo in 2000, 2001 and beginning of 2002 winning several championships for the club. Coming back to the club in 2003 and staying until May 2004.
Cassio moved on loan to S.C. Internacional de Porto Alegre in Brazil in 2002, winning Gaucho's championship against XV de Novembro. He made history for the club scoring the number 1000th goal in Brazilian National league in the game against Atletico Mineiro.
Cassio then moved on loan from Flamengo to Marilia Atletico Club in Sao Paulo (Brazil) for only 4 months and headed to 3 times world club champions Olympia in Paraguay for the rest of 2004 season, playing a huge role in their campaign in that year.
Cassio then moved to play in USA in 2005 for New England Revolution in Major League Soccer (MLS) as he describe as a great experience for his playing career played under coaches like Steve Nichols (Liverpool legend) and Paul Mariner. Played with Clint Dempsey, Charlie Joseph and Uruguayan Pepe Cancela was something that he describes as special.
So Cassio came back to Brazil in 2006 to play for Ceara Sporting Club winning another championship (Cearense Championship). Then played for powerhouse Santa Cruz in Recife (Brazil) for the rest of 2006. In 2007, Cassio signed for Australian Club Adelaide United and in his first month in the club, he won the pre season cup title scoring the grand final goal (2-1) against Perth glory.
In his first 2007/08 season he was given 3 awards, including the Club Champion Award. In 2008/09, Cassio proved just how valuable he had become to the club when he set up all 3 United's goals against F.C. Bunyodkor in the first leg semi-final 2008 AFC Champions League. He was in the 2008/09 team of the A-League season.
In 2009/10, Cassio scored a goal of the season- contender against Newcastle Jets to level to the game match 1-1. In 2010/11 season which Adelaide finished 3rd on the ladder and qualified for the Champions League campaign for the 3rd time, Cassio won the Club Champion award for the second time and made the PFA team of the year. On 7th of September 2012, Cassio and his family became Australian Citizens at a ceremony at Hindmarsh Stadium.
On 21th of November, he signed 2-year extension keeping him until the end of 2014/15 season.
